Importing Your Progress History (CSV Import)
Already been tracking your word counts in a spreadsheet or another app? You can import that history into Pacemaker and turn it into a plan, so your stats and streaks reflect the work you've already done.
What you'll need
A CSV file with two columns:
- Date — the date of each entry
- Words - the daily word count. Just the specific date, not a running total. Pacemaker will add it up for you.
Tracking pages, chapters, or a unit other than words? Don't worry you can change "words" to pages, chapters, or anything else once the file is imported into Pacemaker.
Pacemaker understands many common date formats, including:
- US: M/D/YYYY and MM/DD/YYYY (e.g. 1/5/2024 or 01/05/2024)
- ISO: YYYY-MM-DD (e.g. 2024-01-05)
- European: DD/MM/YYYY (e.g. 05/01/2024)
- Long form dates (e.g. Jan 5, 2025 or 5 January 2024)
How to import
- Go to the import tool.
- Click Browse and choose your file.
- Pacemaker reads your file and shows a confirmation screen with:
- the number of entries found
- the date range
- your total cumulative count
- a preview table showing each date, the daily word count, and the running total
- Give your plan a name, and choose an Activity type (e.g. Writing) and Content type (e.g. Novel).
- Click Create Plan.
Pacemaker creates a brand-new plan with your imported progress history and takes you straight to it.
Good to know
- Import always creates a new plan. It won't add history to one of your existing plans.
- Entries with an unreadable date or a non-numeric word count are skipped automatically.
- You can adjust all of the plan's settings — target, deadline, unit, strategy — after it's created.
- The new plan counts toward your plan limit, just like any other plan.
